When Mariah Carey stepped onto the stage at the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Milan, the moment was designed to be unforgettable. The global music icon delivered a glamorous performance that combined powerful vocals, high fashion and dazzling jewelry, instantly becoming one of the most talked about highlights of the evening. As athletes and spectators from around the world gathered for the start of the Games, Carey brought her signature blend of spectacle and star power to the historic event.

The ceremony took place at San Siro Stadium in Milan on February 6 as part of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. The event celebrated the opening of the international competition and featured an elaborate artistic program centered on the theme of harmony. Musical performances and visual storytelling highlighted Italy’s culture while welcoming athletes from across the globe. Within that grand spectacle, Carey’s performance quickly emerged as one of the most memorable moments of the night.

For the occasion, Carey embraced a look that reflected her reputation as the queen of glamour. The singer appeared on stage wearing more than 300 carats of diamonds valued at around 15 million dollars. The extraordinary jewelry was provided by luxury high jewelry brand Levuma and consisted of emerald cut diamonds set in platinum. The sparkling set included a double strand necklace, a bracelet and dramatic drop earrings, each piece carefully designed to capture the light from every angle.

The centerpiece of the ensemble was an extraordinary necklace weighing 185 carats and featuring a striking 20 carat pendant. Complementing the necklace were a 55 carat bracelet and a pair of diamond earrings totaling 66 carats. Together the pieces formed a coordinated suite of jewels that took hundreds of hours to craft. According to Levuma founder Ali Khalil, the opportunity to have Carey wear the collection on such a historic stage represented a powerful expression of the brand’s craftsmanship and vision of timeless luxury.

Carey paired the diamonds with a dramatic custom gown that captured the elegance of the occasion. Designed by Roberto Cavalli creative director Fausto Puglisi, the winter white ensemble featured a structured bustier silhouette paired with a flowing feather stole. The look combined classic Hollywood glamour with a modern theatrical edge, perfectly suited to the scale of the Olympic ceremony.

The fashion statement matched the grandeur of the performance itself. Carey opened her set with the Italian classic “Volare,” singing the beloved song in Italian before transitioning into her own track “Nothing Is Impossible.” The combination of cultural homage and contemporary pop energy reflected the spirit of the ceremony, which aimed to unite different traditions and voices through music.

As she sang, the stadium erupted with applause from tens of thousands of spectators. The performance was broadcast to millions of viewers worldwide, many of whom quickly took to social media to discuss the striking visual spectacle. While Carey’s vocals were praised by many fans, her glittering diamonds and dramatic stage presence also became a central topic of conversation.

Carey’s appearance also continued a long tradition of iconic fashion moments tied to global entertainment events. Throughout her career she has been known for embracing bold luxury looks that blend music, fashion and personal style. From red carpet appearances to major live performances, she has consistently used fashion as a powerful extension of her artistic identity.

The Olympic performance came during an already celebratory period for the singer. Just days earlier she had been honored at the MusiCares Person of the Year gala, where fellow artists paid tribute to her decades long influence on the music industry. That recognition, combined with the global stage of the Olympics, created a week that highlighted both her enduring legacy and her continued relevance as a performer.

For the opening ceremony audience in Milan, however, the night was less about career milestones and more about spectacle. Under the stadium lights, surrounded by dancers and Olympic symbolism, Carey delivered a moment that felt both glamorous and celebratory. Her voice echoed through the stadium while hundreds of diamonds shimmered under the lights, creating a performance that blended music, fashion and international celebration in a single unforgettable scene.
