Brad Pitt is mourning the loss of his mother Jane Etta Pitt, who passed away at age 84, according to family confirmation and reporting by People. Her death was first reported by TMZ and later shared in a heartfelt Instagram tribute by her granddaughter Sydney Pitt, marking the end of a life described by loved ones as defined by unconditional love, creativity, and kindness.

A retired school counselor from Springfield, Missouri, Jane raised Brad and his two younger siblings Doug and Julie alongside her husband William. She instilled deep values of empathy and service that shaped the Pitt family. Sydney remembered her grandmere as someone who cared "deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked," and recalled “special days” filled with banana‑split breakfasts, rides at Silver Dollar City, craft projects, hours of board games and silly traditions that bonded all fourteen grandchildren together.

Jane’s home life remained humble and grounded even as Brad rose to international fame. She made occasional red carpet appearances and was ever present in his personal life. In June, during an appearance on Today, Brad gave his mother a public shout‑out saying “To Jane Pitt. Love you, Mom,” in a touchingly candid moment aired live. While Brad did not feature in Sydney’s tribute photos, her words captured the emotional terrain of a family losing matriarchal love.

Although the family declined to share cause of death, the tribute emphasized Jane’s zest for life her love of painting, singing, dancing, and making up heartfelt games. Sydney wrote that her grandmother's spirit lives on in "every brushstroke, every kind gesture, every hummingbird," underscoring a belief that legacy is carried through actions and values rather than fame or recognition.

Jane is survived by her husband William, children Doug and Julie, and fourteen grandchildren including Brad’s six children. Friends, relatives, and fans alike have shared condolences online, remembering her as a generous soul whose impact was felt far beyond her immediate family circle.

Her passing marks the close of a chapter that grounded one of Hollywood’s most prominent figures. While Brad’s public life is often defined by cinematic achievements and high-profile headlines, Jane’s death reminds us that his core identity and resilience were nurtured in a modest Midwestern home filled with faith, family, and quiet devotion.
